The ESPEN is pleased to share an exciting capacity-building opportunity from our close partners: the Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE), the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), and The Carter Center.

Applications are now open for the Disease Elimination & Eradication Course (DEEC) 2026. This hybrid course is specifically designed to equip public health professionals with the strategic and technical competencies required to design effective, evidence-based strategies for eliminating preventable diseases in vulnerable regions, with a strong focus on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), malaria, and polio.

Course Structure & Timeline

To graduate, accepted participants are required to complete both components of the course:

  • Online Component: 20 July – 21 August, 2026
  • In-person Component: 31 August – 8 September, 2026 (Hosted in Rwanda)

Please note that the course will be conducted entirely in English.

Target Audience & Country Teams

The course strongly emphasizes interdisciplinary teamwork and collaborative country perspectives. Applications are highly encouraged from Country Teams (minimum of 2–3 people per country) composed of mid-career professionals representing:

  • Ministry of Health staff and national disease program managers (NTDs, malaria, or polio).
  • Public health professionals from NGOs (including UN agencies, national governments, faith-based organizations, and private organizations).
  • Academia, including young researchers focused on health system integration.

Scholarship Support

Course fees, including housing and travel costs, can be covered for a selected number of professional applicants based on merit and financial need.
