WHO Joint Application Package submission

Joint Application Package (JAP) for Preventive Chemotherapy – Video Tutorials

This section provides a set of step-by-step video tutorials to support national NTD programmes and partners in completing and submitting the Joint Application Package (JAP) for preventive chemotherapy (PC). The tutorials are designed to guide users through the main components of the JAP process, including data entry, validation checks, and submission requirements.

The JAP is the primary mechanism through which countries request medicines for preventive chemotherapy and report key programme data. Ensuring that submissions are accurate, complete, and timely is essential for effective planning, forecasting of medicines, and monitoring progress toward the elimination of neglected tropical diseases.

1. JRF (Joint Reporting Form)

  • Definition: The core document used to report annual progress on integrated mass drug administration (MDA) campaigns.

  • Purpose: It collects district-level (Implementation Unit) data on actual treatment coverage, including the number of people targeted versus the number of people treated during the previous year. It helps the WHO monitor program performance and national coverage achievements.

2. JRSM (Joint Request for Selected Medicines)

  • Definition: The formal application tool used by countries to estimate and request their tablet needs for upcoming campaigns.

  • Purpose: It calculates the exact quantity of preventative medicines (such as Albendazole, Mebendazole, Ivermectin, and Praziquantel) required for the next year. It is pre-populated with historical data to ensure requests align with district-level endemicity thresholds and target populations, preventing stockouts or medicine wastage.

3. EPIRF (Epidemiological Data Reporting Form)

  • Definition: The specialized form used to report country-level survey results and epidemiological indicators.

  • Purpose: It tracks the impact of interventions over time by gathering standardization data from disease mappings, sentinel sites, and surveillance surveys (such as the Transmission Assessment Survey, or TAS). It provides the scientific evidence base needed to validate when a country has successfully interrupted transmission and can safely stop MDA.

These video tutorials were developed through a joint initiative led by the NTD Supply Chain Forum, with contributions from members of the JAP Working Group, to provide practical guidance for country teams responsible for preparing JAP submissions. The materials aim to complement existing guidance documents and help strengthen country capacity in navigating the JAP system.

The tutorials can be used as part of national training sessions, refresher learning for programme staff, or as a reference during the preparation of JAP submissions. By providing visual demonstrations of the workflow, they help users better understand key steps in the process and common issues encountered during submission.
