Getting Started

Welcome to the ESPEN Training & Learning Hub, the central entry point for learning how to use ESPEN’s digital tools and services to support planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of NTD programmes in the WHO African Region. This space is designed to help users quickly find the right guidance—whether you are new to ESPEN tools or looking to deepen your technical skills.

The materials hosted here are developed and curated by the Expanded Special Project for the Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (ESPEN) to support countries and partners in applying standardized, data-driven approaches across the full programme cycle—from field data collection to analysis, planning, and reporting.

Getting Started - Training

What this hub contains

This hub brings together training resources in multiple formats to accommodate different learning needs and operational contexts. You will find:

  • User guides and SOPs explaining standard workflows and recommended practices
  • Step-by-step tutorials for setting up and using ESPEN digital tools
  • Quick reference job aids for field teams and data managers
  • Video demonstrations and recorded webinars for visual, practical learning
  • Templates and checklists to support planning, reporting, and quality assurance

Resources are organized by tool and function, allowing users to move easily from introductory materials to more advanced technical content as needed.

How to choose the right resource

To help you navigate the hub efficiently, start by identifying your role and task:

  • If you are involved in survey implementation or data collection, begin with ESPEN Collect Services, focusing on setup, field workflows, and data quality checks.
  • If you work on monitoring, planning, or reporting, explore the ESPEN Portal sections covering dashboards, country profiles, and analytical tools.
  • If you support programme coordination or forecasting, consult the Planning & Reporting Tools resources for guidance on multi-year planning and submissions.

Each section is structured to allow you to start simple and progress gradually, with introductory materials clearly distinguished from more advanced or technical content. Where relevant, resources are designed to be used together—for example, pairing field data-collection guidance with downstream analysis and reporting tools.

How these resources are intended to be used

The Training & Learning Hub is not meant to be read sequentially from start to finish. Instead, it supports just-in-time learning, allowing users to access specific guidance when preparing for a survey, responding to data-quality issues, updating plans, or supporting national reporting processes.

All materials are aligned with WHO guidance and ESPEN operational standards and are regularly updated as tools evolve and new features are introduced. Users are encouraged to return to this hub frequently as a reference point throughout the year.
