South Africa NTD Mater Plan (2019-2025)
This National Master Plan for the Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) is the first such strategic plan the South Africa to be prepared by the Department of Health and the Department of Basic Education. In preparing the National Master Plan for the Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), the NDOH and DOBE seek to put at the disposal of decision makers, health and education professionals, planners, development partners and all other stakeholders, a comprehensive plan and roadmap for taking action toward reducing the heavy burden of NTDs in the country.
The National Department of Health and the National Department of Basic Education is appreciative of the government’s technical leadership and funding support toward the workshops and other engagements that led to the development of this plan. In addition, our two departments extend our thanks to the collaborative technical and financial assistance provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa and the Expanded Special Project for the Elimination of NTDs (ESPEN). Special appreciation also goes to the Director Communicable Diseases at the National Department of Health, Ms Furumele Tsakani, and the Director of the School Health Programme, Department of Basic Education, Ms Anada Soldo who led the development of this first comprehensive Master Plan to control and eliminate NTDs in South Africa. We also appreciate the expertise and technical guidance that WHO provided through Dr. Adiele Onyeze and Dr. Mutale Nsakashalo-Senkwe.
