2024 Data Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation of PC-NTD Programmes
Background
The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Workshop held in August 2024 in Brazzaville, Congo, was a critical initiative led by ESPEN under the UCN Cluster of WHO-AFRO. This workshop was designed to address the persistent challenges of data quality and reporting in PC-NTD programs, such as delays in treatment data submission and misalignment between country health information systems and reported data. Bringing together stakeholders from across Africa, the event aimed to enhance the technical capacity of data teams, improve data-driven decision-making, and strengthen collaborative efforts to eliminate neglected tropical diseases.
Why the Meeting is Important for WHO-AFRO
This workshop was pivotal for WHO-AFRO as it tackled one of the key barriers to effective NTD program implementation: reliable and timely data. Accurate data ensures that programs are adequately monitored, resources are effectively allocated, and strategies are aligned with local needs. By focusing on data quality assessments, forecasting, and establishing a permanent working group for M&E, the meeting contributed to improving NTD interventions' impact and strengthening accountability across the region.
