Regional Workshop on Data Systems, Tools, and Processes for PC-NTD Programmes

Participants at the M&E Workshop held in Brazzaville, 8-12 December 2025
Brazzaville, Republic of Congo — The WHO Regional Office for Africa, through ESPEN, convened the Regional Workshop on Data Systems, Tools, and Processes for PC-NTD Programmes from 8–12 December 2025 in Brazzaville. This five-day workshop brought together over 70 participants from 13 Ministries of Health, their respective WHO Country Offices, and representatives from implementing partners to strengthen the quality, integration, and use of data for preventive chemotherapy neglected tropical diseases (PC-NTDs).
In the context of constrained global health financing, the workshop underscored the importance of robust and harmonized monitoring and evaluation systems to guide decision-making and sustain progress towards elimination. To support this objective, the workshop focused on four core areas of action:
- Enhancing data quality assurance, addressing common gaps in Joint Application Package (JAP) submissions, surveys, and MDA reporting.
- Integrating PC-NTD indicators into national health information systems, improving interoperability and alignment with broader health programmes.
- Strengthening forecasting and supply chain planning, supporting countries to better anticipate medicine needs and improve logistics efficiency.
- Operationalizing a Regional M&E Technical Committee, to institutionalize collaboration, peer learning, and coordinated regional action.
Participants engaged in plenary discussions, hands-on practical exercises, digital tool demonstrations, and country-led experience sharing, ensuring that the workshop delivered practical and actionable solutions to support programme improvement.
Representatives from invited endemic countries, alongside WHO colleagues, implementing partners, tool developers, and pharmaceutical donors, contributed to a collaborative and forward-looking dialogue. Overall, the workshop helped strengthen a more sustainable and data-driven regional response to PC-NTDs, supporting countries in accelerating progress towards national and regional elimination goals.
