About the ESPEN Portal

The ESPEN Portal is a digital platform developed by the Expanded Special Project for Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (ESPEN) to facilitate the sharing, visualization, and use of subnational program data across the WHO African Region. It serves as a central hub where Ministries of Health, partners, and researchers can access high-quality, standardized data that supports evidence-based decision-making for the control and elimination of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

Through the Portal, users can explore interactive maps and dashboards that display site- and district-level data, which can be aggregated by disease, year, and country. The underlying datasets are also available for download, enabling in-depth analyses and integration into national monitoring and evaluation systems.

The ESPEN Portal contributes to greater transparency and collaboration by making program data accessible to all stakeholders involved in NTD efforts. It helps countries track progress, identify implementation gaps, and prioritize interventions to reach underserved and at-risk populations.

Ultimately, the Portal supports the regional goal of “Ending the neglect to attain the Sustainable Development Goals” by equipping stakeholders with the evidence needed to plan, implement, and monitor effective NTD interventions. It embodies ESPEN’s commitment to strengthening country ownership, promoting data-driven action, and fostering accountability in the collective fight against NTDs in Africa.
