Integrated control of Taeniasis/Cysticercosis & Schistosomiasis : Country capacity building for One Health programme integration and adverse event prevention and management during MDA
ESPEN, in collaboration with WHO AFRO and partners, is convening a regional One Health Workshop in Antsirabe, Madagascar, from 14–16 October 2025. This workshop will focus on building country capacity for the integrated control of Taeniasis/Cysticercosis and Schistosomiasis, with a strong emphasis on adverse event prevention and management during Mass Drug Administration (MDA).
Championing Inclusive and Effective NTD Strategies
This workshop is not just a training—it’s a strategic step toward stronger, safer, and more integrated NTD programmes across Africa. By bringing together national teams, experts, and partners, we aim to:
-
Empower country teams with the knowledge and tools to jointly tackle Taeniasis/Cysticercosis and Schistosomiasis through integrated planning and delivery.
-
Build practical skills for designing and implementing joint Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaigns that are efficient, community-centered, and safe.
-
Strengthen safety systems by training teams on how to prevent, monitor, and respond to adverse events during MDAs.
-
Facilitate peer learning, enabling countries to share experiences, challenges, and successful models of integration.
-
Support action planning, with each country developing draft integrated MDA and survey plans tailored to their context.
What Participants Will Take Away
By the end of the workshop, participants will walk away with:
-
Hands-on experience in integrated programme design and adverse event management.
-
Customizable tools and SOPs to guide safe and effective implementation.
-
Draft national plans ready for refinement and rollout.
-
Stronger collaboration between NTD, One Health, and pharmacovigilance stakeholders.
