Chicago, Illinois, USADr. Pauline Mwinzi, ESPEN expert on Schistosomiasis and Soil-transmitted helminthiases, offered key contributions to the global effort against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), particularly Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis (SCH and STH), at several international conferences held in Chicago from October 16 to 22, 2023.

During the 10th COR-NTD Conference (October 16-17), Dr. Mwinzi shared important updates from the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasizing advancements in SCH and STH research and control strategies.

At the Global Schistosomiasis Alliance on October 18, she participated in discussions on combating Schistosomiasis, showcasing ESPEN's role in promoting global health initiatives and collaborative action.

At the ASTMH 73rd Meeting (October 18-22), Dr. Mwinzi continued her engagement, focusing on SCH/STH sessions where she provided insights into the latest scientific developments, WHO recommendations, and strategic directions for NTDs, highlighting ESPEN’s active involvement in the sector.

These conferences provided ESPEN an opportunity to raise the profile of operational research and to address issues identified by the PC-NTD RPRG and its member countries. The events also allowed for strategic engagement with important partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), aimed at enhancing joint efforts to eliminate NTDs.

Dr. Mwinzi's participation at these events reflects ESPEN’s ongoing commitment to contribute to the international NTD response, shaping the organization's strategies in tackling SCH and STH and reinforcing its dedication to improving global health outcomes.
